RAB recovered two firearms and many locally made weapons from the spot
The gunfight took place in Chhoto Kumira area under Sitakunda upazila around 1:30am on Tuesday.
The identity of the deceased could not be confirmed yet, RAB 7 Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mahmudul Hasan Mamun told Dhaka Tribune.
The elite force members claimed that the deceased were members of an inter-district robbery gang.
ASP Mamun said a RAB patrol team was making rounds from Chittagong sadar to Sitakunda, when a gang of robbers opened fire at them.
The RAB members also fired back in self-defence, triggering the gunfight. Three robbers were caught in the line of fire that left them severely injured.
They were taken to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor announced them dead upon arrival, ASP Mamun added.
Later, police prepared an inquest report and sent the bodies to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue.
RAB also recovered two firearms including a foreign-made pistol, 12 bullets and many locally made weapons from the spot.
