Police have arrested three alleged rapists

A woman has been abducted and gang-raped, allegedly by three men, in Mohadebpur upazila of Naogaon district.

The incident occurred near Saraswatipur Bazar area of the upazila on Thursday evening.

The alleged rapists are -- Sirajul Islam, 36, Mithu, 38, and Babu, 40 -- residents of Chakraza village of the upazila.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Farid, in-charge of Naohatamor police outpost, conducted a raid and arrested the trio from their respective homes late Saturday.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Nazrul Islam Jewel, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohadebpur police station, said: “After the incident, the trio attempted to bribe the woman’s relatives to cover up the crime.

“However, locals informed the police and we arrested the suspects.”

The gang rape survivor has filed a case against the trio with Mohadebpur police station.

She will be taken to Naogaon Sadar Hospital for medical examination on Sunday, the OC added.

The abduction and gang-rape

On Thursday evening, the woman was abducted by the trio from Saraswatipur Bazar area of the upazila, while she was returning to her husband’s home after a visit to her parents’ residence.

After the abduction, they took her to a nearby deserted rice mill and gang raped her in turns.

Hearing her screams, locals rescued the woman and captured Sirajul. However, his associates fled the scene.

Later, they took the rape survivor to her home and handed over Sirajul to the police.
