A case is being processed in this regard
Three people have been arrested for allegedly beating up a fisherman over a statement he made in an interview on the issue of reservoir lease.
The arrested are - Rasel Miah, 27, Monwarul Islam, 28, and Anu Miah, 35, from Sreemukh village of Gobindaganj upazila in Gaibandha district.
Confirming the matter, Gobindaganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Mehedi Hasan said: "A case is being processed in this regard."
The victim of the incident, Sree Shombhu Howlader is undergoing treatment at Gaibandha General Hospital, he added.
Meanwhile, some fishermen formed a human chain, and held demonstrations over the incident on Saturday evening at Mahimaganj. They demanded immediate justice in the matter.
Shombhu, 38, was beaten up for giving an interview in a crime show, on a private television channel, over issues regarding lease of several public water reservoirs.
In the interview, Shombhu had claimed the slogan "Jol jar jolabhumi tar" was changed to "Khomota jar jola tar," which he said might have been the reason for the assault.
