Three people were held in connection with the stabbing of an RU student
Students of Rajshahi University (RU) have announced that they will halt their protest demanding justice for the murder of a fellow student till October 24.
The students blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway around 12pm on Saturday demanding the arrests of some miscreants who had stabbed Firoz Anam, a first-year student of the Economics department at RU.
Later, they talked to the proctor and decided to halt their protest till October 24, around 2:30pm.
The students made a three-point demand - restricting entry of outsiders into the campus and ensure safety of students; arresting the miscreants who stabbed Firoz; and explaining why law enforcement agencies detained protesting students.
According to campus sources, Firoz and a friend was standing near a photocopy shop when a group of miscreants took him to a field around 8:45pm Friday.
When Firoz tried to scream, they stabbed him and fled. Nearby people heard his screams and rescued him.
Later, he was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), where he is currently receiving treatment.
Case filed; 3 held
Firoz filed a case with police on section 34, 325, 341, 393 of the penal code. Four people have been accused in this regard.
Investigative officer in the case, Sub-Inspector of Police (SI) Abdul Rahman said: "Three people, Rumel, Parvez and Rakesh, have been arrested based on suspicion. They are being interrogated."
