Apparel workers also demand exemplary punishment of the perpetrators

Apparel workers have staged demonstration demanding rehabilitation and compensation for the affected workers of Tazreen Fashions Ltd.

They also demanded exemplary punishment for the perpetrators in the incident of deadly fire that broke out at the Tazreen Fashions factory, a press release said on Friday.

Jago Bangladesh Garments Sramik Federation came up with the demands at a human chain they organized around 11am on Friday in front of National Press Club.

Md Baharane Sultan Bahar, convener of the organization, presided over the program.

At the human chain, speakers lamented that although various government and non-governmental organizations pledged to stretch out their hands for the affected workers after the fire incident, they were yet to get any assistance.

Workers of the Tazreen Fashions Ltd alleged that many of their fellow workers have already become crippled and are now passing their days in hardship.

Although many organizations or individuals promised to help them, they actually did it for highlighting themselves before the media, the workers said.

In the program, Jago Bangladesh Garments Sramik Federation declared that they would form a human chain again for the same demand on November 1, the press statement added.

On November 24, 2012, a devastating fire razed Tazreen Fashions Ltd in Ashulia on the outskirts of Dhaka, killing 113 of its workers and injuring many others.

The trial in the incident started on September 3, 2015 against 13 accused, including Tazreen Fashions Ltd’s owner and Managing Director Delwar Hossain, and his wife and chairman of the factory, Mahmuda Akhter.
