Police have arrested four members of a family over their alleged involvement in the murder of 15-year-old Riyad Hossain.

They are: Riyad's uncle Joj Miah, his wife Sabina Akhter, their son Asaduzzaman Swapan, and daughter Tanjiya Akhter Shikha.

They were arrested from a hotel in Sylhet's Jaintapur upazila on Friday morning.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Uttarkhan police station Helal Uddin said: "We suspect they were trying to escape to India.”

The OC said, acting on a tip-off, they conducted a raid at a house in Jaintapur, but not finding them there, went to a hotel and detained them from that hotel.

Police are trying to arrest the other four accused, the OC added.

Riyad was stabbed allegedly by his cousin Swapan during a brawl in the Uttarkhan area of Dhaka on October 14.  Later, he died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

His brothers Shamim, 25, and Rijon, 18, were also injured.

Riyad's brother Shamim, and another of his uncle Momen, claimed that Swapan was a drug addict, and maintained that Riyad and Swapan's fathers were involved in a family feud over property.

Riyad's maternal aunt Hasna Akhter was arrested immediately after the incident.

Riyad's father Raju Mia filed a case in connection with the incident with Uttarkhan police station, accusing eight people, including Swapan.

The family claimed that Uttarkhan police station Sub-Inspector Ishtiaque had detained the perpetrator Swapan, but released him from police custody after some time.
