Abrar murder: DB nabs another accused

Sadat was on the run since the day of the incident

Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) has arrested another accused in the Abrar murder case.

ASM Nazmus Sadat was arrested from Katla Bazar area in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur district around 3:30am on Tuesday. 

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media Wing) Masudur Rahman confirmed the matter.

Sadat remained a fugitive since the day of the incident and was trying to flee to India through the Hili border.

He is a 17th batch student of mechanical engineering department in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) and the son of Hafizur Rahman from Kalai upazila of Jaipurhat district.

Till date 20 people have been arrested in connection to Abrar's murder.

Meanwhile, Investigation officer of the case Inspector Wahiduzzaman said: "Another arrestee Md Akash Hossain has been produced before the court after five days remand."

Abrar, a second year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of the university, was beaten to death on October 7.

Some Chhatra League leaders have been accused of beating him for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.

On the same day, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case with Chawkbazar police station.

Abrar’s death sparked protest across Bangladesh. The protesters have demanded justice for Abrar and capital punishment for the murderers.
