Police recovered a knife and Tk8 lakh cash from the scene
A man suspected of slaughtering a pregnant mother and her daughter has been arrested by the police in Tangail.
The suspect, Rois Uddin, was arrested from Valuk Kandi area under Tangail municipality early Monday.
Tangail Sadar Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mir Mosharraf Hossain confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “Details about the arrest will be disclosed after a press briefing at the district’s police super office at 12pm.”
Police recovered a knife and Tk8 lakh cash from the scene.
Pregnant mother, daughter slaughter
On Sunday, the bodies of a pregnant woman and her 4-year-old daughter were found slaughtered and hacked in Valuk Kandi area of Tangail district around 12:30am.
The deceased are Laki Begum, 22, wife of Al Amin of the same area, and their daughter Alifa, 4.
Relatives of the deceased said Al Amin works as a flexi-load trader in the Asad Market near his home.
On early Sunday, after returning home, he screamed for help after discovering the butchered body of his daughter Alifa near the entrance.
Receiving no reply from his wife, he entered the house and found her [Laki] killed in the same manner. Later, locals approached the scene and informed police.
Some cash was found missing from the residence. Police suspect that the miscreants took advantage of Al Amin’s absence to kill his seven months pregnant wife and their child, and loot the home.
