14 Jamaat female activists held in Pabna

Police also recovered numerous jihadi books, pamphlets from the spot

Police have arrested 13 suspected members of Jamaat-e-Islami's female student wing Islami Chhatri Sangstha and a madrasa principal from sadar upazila of Pabna.

They were arrested from a building in Mansurabad residential area, where they were holding a secret meeting, around 9:30pm on Sunday.

The arrestees are- Arifa Khatun, Rabeya Khatun, Sharmin Shamchi, Luna Khatun, Laki Khatun, Taslima Khatun alias Sumaiya, Mahfuza Khatun, Nazma Khatun, Shamina Nayrin, Taslima Khatun, Fatema Khatun, Asmaul Husna, and Ruma Khatun. Most of them are students of Government Edward College in Pabna.

Pabna sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nasim Ahmed told Dhaka Tribune that the building was owned by the principal of Dhulauri Kamil Madrasa, Maulana Anowar Hossain.

He said, the ground floor of the house was used as a hideout by the activists of Islami Chhatri Sangstha, who organized women and trained them there, planning sabotage acts.

The policeman said, acting on a tip-off, police raided the house during a secret meeting and detained the 13 Jamaat female activists and the owner of the house.

Police have also recovered numerous jihadi books and pamphlets from the spot.

Pabna Additional Superintendent of police (Sadar circle) Ibne Mizan said they were arrested on allegations of plotting sabotage.

He said: "The arrestees were brought to Pabna police station for questioning. More details regarding the matter will be disclosed after investigation."
