Her husband discovered their brutalized body after returning home

Bodies of a pregnant woman and her 4-year-old daughter have been found slaughtered and hacked in Valuk Kandi area of Tangail district.

The incident occurred around 12:30am on Sunday.

The deceased are Laki Begum, 22, wife of Al Amin of the same area, and their daughter Alifa, 4.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Tangail Sadar Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mir Mosharraf Hossain said: “The motive behind the murder is still unclear. Therefore, we are looking into the matter and trying to identify the assailants.

Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased said Al Amin works as a flexi-load trader in Asad Market near his home.

On early Sunday, after returning home, he screamed for help after discovering the butchered body of his daughter Alifa near the entrance.

Receiving no reply from his wife, he entered the house and found her [Laki] killed in the same manner. Later, locals approached the scene and informed police.

Some cash was found missing from the residence. Police suspect that the miscreants took advantage of Al Amin’s absence to kill his 7-months pregnant wife and their child, and loot the home.

The OC said: "We have made no arrests so far regarding the incident."

The bodies have been sent to Tangail General Hospital for autopsy, and a case has been filed with the Sadar Model police station regarding the incident, the policeman added.
