1 killed in ‘gunfight’ in Moulvibazar

A man has been killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Moulvibazar.

The deceased is identified as Jaynul Islam, 35, son of Mostakin Miah from Changram area of Barlekha upazila in Moulvibazar district.

The incident occurred on Sunday in Sreemangal upazila. 

RAB 9 Sreemangal Camp Senior Warrant Officer Mohammad Abdul Jabbar said one pistol, one round of bullets, two bullet shells, and a mobile phone was recovered from the scene. At the time, two Rab members were injured.

RAB 9 Sreemangal Camp Commander Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md Kamruzzaman told Dhaka Tribune some inter-district criminals were arrested from Sylhet two days ago. 

Acting on a tipoff, a RAB team raided the Shatgaon area. Sensing Rab’s presence, the criminals opened fire at them which resulted in a “gunfight.” 

Jaynul Islam was wounded in the “gunfight”, while the rest of the criminals fled.

Sreemangal police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Salek told Dhaka Tribune he heard about the incident.

No case has yet been filed in this regard.
