The Department of Environment (DoE) has fined two businesses in Chittagong with Tk6.78 lakh in total for polluting environment.
Azadur Rahman Mollick, director of Chittagong DoE, slapped the fine on the errant enterprises during a hearing held at DoE office in the city on Thursday.

Islam Steel Mills Ltd, a billet manufacturing company located at the city’s Nasirabad area, was fined with Tk4.86 lakh for polluting environment through releasing untreated air.
Chittagong Central Effluent Treatment Plant, located in the Chittagong Export Processing Zone, was fined with Tk1.92 lakh for polluting environment by discharging untreated liquid waste.
