Hossain Md Toha of the mechanical engineering department was detained from Mawna area of Gazipur around 2:30pm.

Toha is one of the accused named in the case filed over Abrar's death.

Deputy Police Commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman confirmed the matter at a press briefing held in Dhaka on Thursday.

Abrar, a second year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of the university, was beaten to death in the early hours of Monday.

Some leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League have been accused of beating Abrar inside the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall.

They claimed Abrar was involved with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
