5 victims rescued while being trafficked to Libya, 3 traffickers held

During initial interrogation, the victims told police that they had been brought to Chittagong from different parts of the country

Police rescued five victims, all in the process of being trafficked to Libya, and arrested three traffickers in the Station Road area of the city on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Kotwali police conducted a raid at Mid Town Hotel, recovering 15 passports in addition to rescuing the victims and making the arrests.

Mohammad Mohsin, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali police station, identified the arrestees as Ataur Rahman, 38, Jahangir Alam, 26, and Md Jahangir, 34.

During initial interrogation, the victims told police that they had been brought to Chittagong from different parts of the country.

The traffickers lured the victims with the promise of good jobs in Libya. The victims were supposed to fly to Dubai from Chittagong Airport, and then travel on by road to Egypt and finally Libya.
