Durga Puja begins in advance in Moulvibazar

Worshiping started in the morning of day one with the puja of goddess Durga according to the mythological rules

Five days ahead of Durga Puja, Hindus in Srimangal of Moulvibazar began celebrations of the festival with rituals on Sunday at a 200-year-old temple, on the bosom of the Ichamati and Clonal Tea gardens of the upazila.

Worshiping started in the morning of day one with the puja of goddess Durga according to the mythological rules.  This was organized by ‘Sri Sri Mangalchandi Seva Shram Nabarupe Navdurga Puja Udjapan Parishad’ at the Mangalchandi temple.

Parimal Bhowmik, president of the Sri Sri Mangalchandi Sevashram Nabupe Nabdurga Puja Udjapan Parishad said that up to 8th October continuous worshiping of Srisibrutracharyani, Sri Sri Chandraghantha, Sri Srikundamunda, Sreesriksand, Sri Srikatyayani, Sri Srikalowatri, Sreeshma Gauri and Sri Sri Siddhidadatti will take place.

Biswajit Dev, the organizing secretary of the parishad said the Mangalchandi temple is known to be Srimangal’s oldest establishment. 

Many people expressed that the origin of the name Srimangal is came from this Shri Shri Mangal Chandi `Tholi’. 

Chandi  is a Hindu deity. Chandika is one form of Durga. Chandika is the combined power of all gods, she represents the total power of the Brahman. Chandika is a powerful, terrifying form that is manifested from the combined energies of all gods to destroy evil.

"We have been organizing the puja for the last eight years to keep the place in proper condition , " he said.

The dates of the festival are determined according to the lunar calendar. In 2019, Durga Puja takes place from October 4 to October 7, followed by the grand immersion of Durga idols on October 8.
