Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) students called off their strike yesterday following their Vice-Chancellor’s  resignation.

On Monday, Vice-Chancellor (VC) of BSMRTU, Prof Dr Khondoker Md Nasiruddin submitted his resignation to the Ministryof Education.

Hearing the news, the students called a press conference yesterday and announced they were calling off the strike as their demand had been met.

Students at the press conference said they are really happy and thanked the premier of the country for her support.

Student protests at BSMRTU started on September 13 when  BSMRSTU authorities issued an order to suspend second-year law student Fatema-tuz-Zinia, for her supposedly objectionable comments about BSMRSTU on Facebook on September 10.

However, the university lifted Zinia’s suspension order on September 18, when news of her suspension went viral on social media and sparked severe criticism of the university and its administration.
