2 suspected drug dealers killed in Teknaf 'gunfight'

Arms, yaba pills were recovered in the drive

Two suspected drug dealers have been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar district.

The incident occurred in Baharchora union's Shilkhali hilly area around 4am on Monday.

The deceased are Mohammad Amin, 37, and Helal Uddin, 21.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf police station, Pradip Kumar Das, said: "We arrested Amin and Helal during a raid in Shilkhali village on Monday, suspecting them of dealing drugs.

“Later that night, based on their information, our team, along with the arrestees, conducted a raid in Shilkhali to recover weapons and yaba pills."

He also said: "Sensing presence of law enforcement, some miscreants opened fire at us and tried to snatch away Helal and Amin. In retaliation, we fired back.”

The OC added that the two in injured drug peddlers were taken to Teknaf Health Complex Hospital. Later, they were transferred to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Their bodies have been kept at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.

Police have recovered two firearms, seven rounds of shotgun cartridges, and 5,000 yaba pills.

A case has been filed with Teknaf police station in regard to this matter.
