Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and immigration police in Benapole of Jessore have been kept on high alert to prevent criminals involved in casino business from leaving the country.

Both BGB and Benapole immigration police confirmed the matter on Friday afternoon.

Mohsin Khan Pathan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Benapole immigration police, said they received a directive from the Special Branch (SB) of police in Dhaka.

"We have been asked to remain vigilant so that Jubo League's Dhaka South unit President Ismail Chowdhury Samrat, and nine Nepali citizens cannot leave the country in any way," he said.

"Besides, we are also getting lists of other individuals so we can stay careful that they do not leave the country using the land port," the OC said.

Following the directive, BGB and immigration police increased their surveillance along border areas and at the check post.

Mohsin Khan said the immigration authorities are checking names, addresses and photos of the outgoing passengers.

Besides, the authorities are also checking their fingerprints so that no one can escape to any neighbouring country using fake passports, he added.

BGB 49 battalion Commanding Officer (CO) Lt Col Md Selim Reza and its 21 battalion Commanding Officer Lt Col Imran Ullah Sarkar said the border forces were on high alert to ensure that the state declared criminals cannot pass through the border illegally.

Since September 18, Rapid Action Battalion and police have been raiding different sports organizations and bars that had been running businesses of narcotics, gambling and casino illegally.

A number of people, including the influential political leaders from the ruling party, were also arrested in the drives while many others remained absconded.
