2 killed in road accidents in Rangpur, Feni

Two people have been killed in separate road accidents in Rangpur and Feni districts.

The incidents occurred on Saturday.

In Rangpur, college student Iti Akhter, from Tamfat area of Mirganj, was run over by a bus when she was crossing the road near Bangladesh Rice Research Institute around 12pm Saturday. 

She died on the spot.

Later, people held blockades at Rangpur-Dhaka highway, protesting against the accident. Police arrived and brought the situation under control, but failed to arrest the driver.

One of the passengers claimed that the driver was speaking over the phone while driving recklessly.  

Tajhat police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Roknuzzaman said Iti’s body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy. 

In Feni, Azgar Ali, 35 son of Abdul Ali from Charchandia area of Sonagaziupazila of Feni district, near Muhirganj area of Dhaka-Chittagong highway, died around 10am on Saturday.

Mahipal highway police station OC MdShahjahan Khan confirmed the matter.

He said: “Azgar was travelling to get supplies for his bakery when his rickshaw van was hit by a covered van. He died on the spot.”

Police have sent his body to Magura General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
