2 criminals killed in ‘gunfights’ in Dhaka, Khulna

The two incidents happened on the same day

In Dhaka, a suspected criminal has been killed in a reported gunfight with the Detective Branch of police (DB) at Dhaka's Khilgaon area. 

The incident occurred on Thursday early morning 

The deceased has been identified as Towhid. 

“Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police went to Nagpar Bus Stand area at 1:55am," said Syed Ruhul Amin, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Khilgaon Police Station.  

However, sensing presence of the law enforcers, the suspected criminal opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back in self-defence that left Towhid dead on the spot. 

In Khulna, a suspected drug dealer has been killed in a reported gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Dumuria upazila. 

The deceased has been identified as Bikash Kumar Dey, 40, of Dhanibunia village under the same upazila.

The incident occurred around 1am on Thursday.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, RAB 6 Commander Major Asraf Uddin said: “Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB conducted a drive in Dhanibunia village.”

“Sensing the presence of the elite force, the group of drug traders opened fire on RAB, triggering a gunfight.” he added.

Bikash sustained bullet wounds during the incident. Later, he was taken to Dumuria Upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctors declared him dead.

Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Dumuria police station, said: “On information, I went to the spot and saw some firearms and a pair of sandals.

"Later, I visited the upazila health complex also.”

Two revolvers, six rounds of bullets, 55 bottles of phensedyl and 200 pieces of yaba tablets were recovered from the spot of the gunfight.

Bikash was accused in multiple cases, including extortion and drug dealing, RAB sources said.
