At least six men were arrested by police for raping three women and two children in four districts of the country yesterday and on Sunday.
In Gopalganj, police arrested two rickshaw van drivers, Yasin Sheikh, 31, and Kader Sheikh, 30, for gangraping a college student.
Sources said Suman Hawladar, reportedly the girl's boyfriend, tricked the girl into coming to the Kathalbagan area and then raped her taking turns with the two men who have been arrested. Hearing her scream, locals rescued the girl although the three managed to free.
Tungipara police station OC AKM Enamul Kabir said: "Yasin confessed to his crime and we are on a drive to catch Suman."
In Bogra, police arrested two men from different places in the city and jailed them yesterday for raping a woman and child.
In the Nishindara suburb, police arrested a coaching centre director, Ali Ahsan Duke, 43, from the Snigdha Housing Society for raping his employee.
Inspector Rezaul Karim of Sadar police station said: "Duke is also accused on several counts of child harassment. We are working on the case."
In Uttar Chelopara, police arrested Shahidul Islam, 26, for raping his stepdaughter.
Inspector Rezaul Karim of Sadar police station said: "Shahidul was married to the child's mother. Finding the child alone, he raped her vindictively based on previous animosity. We sent him to jail after he was brought up in court.
In Madaripur, police arrested a youth named Anik Sheikh from Shibpur and sent him to jail yesterday for raping a fifth grader in Bagerhat on Sunday.
Bagerhat model police station Sub-Inspector Manajit Kumar Nandi said: "With the help of the River Police we arrested Anik and sent him to jail."
In Bagerhat, a father of three was arrested from the Morelganj Sanyasi Launch Terminal on Sunday night for attempting to rape a housewife.
Morelganj police station OC KM Azizul Islam said: "We took him to court and sent him to jail on Monday."
