Jubo League, Awami League leader held for rape


The incidents occurred on Saturday

A Jubo League leader has confessed to raping a teenage girl in Manikganj, while an Awami League leader was arrested for raping a 38-year-old woman from Bagerhat on Saturday.

In another incident, a Jessore madrasa teacher was beaten up by angry guardians for sexually harassing a number of his students.

In Manikganj, police arrested a local Jubo League leader of Ghior area for raping a 14-year-old girl, and posting the rape video on the internet.

According to the case statement, the accused Kamrul Hasan Kamal took the teenage girl to a Dhaka hotel two months ago and forcefully raped her while recording the act, and later spread it on the internet.

Ghior police station OC Ashraful Islam said: "Acting on the case filed on Saturday, we arrested Kamal, and sent him to jail after he confessed to his crimes before the court."

Joint Convenor of Jubo League Mahbubur Rahman Jony said: "Considering Kamal's unlawful act, we suspended him from the party."

In Bagerhat, police arrested upazila Awami League (AL) Secretary Hamim Nuri, 48, from Shriphal Tola area on Saturday in a rape case.

According to the case statement, Hamim took a wholesome bribe from a job-seeker. When he denied returning the money, the candidate filed a bribery case against him at Fakirhat police station.

Later, Hamim tricked the job-seekers mother to visit him in Rampal, and raped her. The woman filed a rape case against him with Rampal police station.

Rampal police station OC Md Tuhin Hawladar said: "We along with the Detective Branch (DB) of Police conducted a drive, and arrested Hamim. He is under DB police's custody."

In Jessore, a fifth grade madrasa student was allegedly sexually harassed by a teacher at Shamser Bag Dakhil Madrasa in Monirampur, Jessore.

The accused, Abdul Aziz, a teacher of the madrasa, who was involved in multiple incidents of sexual harassment and was later beaten up by angry guardians on Saturday.

When contacted, Aziz denied the allegations, and said he was only being nice to them.

The guardians said, even after their multiple complaints, the Madrasa Super Maolana Showkat Ali did not take any action against the harasser. So when they asked him to take action against Abdul Aziz, and the madrasa super gave them false promises once again, the guardians got infuriated, and beat up the harasser.

Denying the guardians’ allegation, Madrasa Super Showkat Ali said: "I was not aware of the incidents earlier. Aziz was issued a show cause notice, and suspended temporarily."

In Narayanganj, a garment worker was allegedly raped on Saturday in Tetlabo area of Rupganj, and she filed a case on the same day accusing a man named Jahirul, 25.

According to the case statement, the accused was pressuring the girl to respond to his romantic proposal for a while. When denied, he abducted the girl on her way to work, took her to a house, and forcefully raped her multiple times, while another unidentified man kept a watch.

Rupganj police station OC Mahmudul Hasan said: "Hearing her screams, locals rescued the girl while the criminals fled. A case has been filed."

In Kurigram, a tenth grader boy allegedly raped his neighbour, a ten-year-old child in Panchgachi area of Sadar upazila on Saturday.

Sadar police station OC Mahfuzar Rahman said: "When her parents came to the station with the severely injured girl, we sent them to Kurigram General Hospital. We will take action after the check-ups."
