Police said they were accused in an extortion case

Police have arrested two Jubo League leaders over various cases, including extortion, in sadar upazila of Kushtia.

The Jubo League men - Kushtia unit Jubo League General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Mizu, 36, and town unit Convener Ashraful Sujon, 40 - were arrested around 9pm on Friday.

Superintendent of Kushtia police (SP) SM Tanvir Arafat told Dhaka Tribune that they arrested Mijanur from Hasanbag School area in sadar upazila, and Ashraful from his home in Harishankarpur in Kushtia town.

He said they were accused in an extortion case, along with four others and several other unnamed suspects, filed by a local businessman at the Kushtia Islamic University Police Station.

Apart from this, Mijanur also has various allegations against him at Kushtia Islamic University

Police are trying to arrest others named in the case, the SP Arafat added.
