A Rohingya woman along with a local man have been arrested for reportedly trying to get a Bangladeshi passport by concealing their identities.

Officials of Bandarban Divisional Passport and Visa Office held Josna Akter and Shahid Alam on Thursday, Bandarban Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Shamim Hossain, confirmed.

He said: "Josna is a registered Rohingya refugee from Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar. She not only forged her identity but also portrayed Shahid as to be her biological father.

"We began to question them because they were acting suspiciously," Bandarban passport office Deputy Director Farid Uddin Ahmed, said.

At one stage of interrogation, Josna confessed her true identity and admitted she had faked her documents, he added.
