A man’s wrists have been cut off in Shibganj upazila Chapainawabganj district.

The victim is Rubel Hossain, 28, of Shibganj upazila.

Rubel and his family accused Wazirpur upazila’s Union Chairman Fayez Uddin and his goons for the attack that occurred on Wednesday night.

According to them, Rubel was returning home on a bike along with two of his friends when some people blocked their way and asked them to meet Chairman Fayez at his office.

When they went there, Rubel’s friends were locked in a room while he was blindfolded and taken to the dam of Padma river. There, he was tortured and his two wrists were cut off.

Later, his family members rescued him and took him to Chapainawabganj General Hospital. He was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

Abdus Salam, Rubel’s cousin and also an Awami League activist, said: “There is a rivalry between chairman Fayez and us regarding the new Padma ferry ghat.

“In order to gain full control over the ferry ghat, chairman Fayez did this to Rubel.”

“After Rubel’s treatment, we will file a case with the Shibganj police station.” he added.

Atikul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shibganj police station, said: “We are aware of this incident. However, no case has been filed with the police station yet.”
