The accused Manik Hossain is the owner of City Rice mills in the district’s Kulaghat area

A rice mill owner, who poisoned over hundred birds of different species including pigeons and sparrows to death, was fined by a mobile court in Lalmonirhat.

The accused Manik Hossain is the owner of City Rice mills in the district’s Kulaghat area. 

A mobile court, led by Executive Magistrate TM Rahsin Kabir fined him Tk 50,000 under the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act 2012 September 14.

According to the locals, as birds eat paddy regularly in the rice mill, accused Manik spread poison mixed food on the floor of his rice mill to save paddy from birds on September 14,. After eating poisoned foods, over hundred birds died. As soon as the news reached Abu Zafor, Deputy Commissioner of Lalmonirhat, he sent executive magistrate TM Rahsin Kabir to the scene. After investigating the matter, the executive magistrate fined Manik Hossain Tk50,000.
