Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a person allegedly involved in killing his ex-wife Hashi Akhter, 24 in Savar.

The arrestee was identified as Sohel Rana, 26, and he was arrested in-front of Dharmashagor Park in Comilla town around 7:30pm on Sunday.

Primarily, Sohel had admitted his involvement in killing Hashi said RAB-4 Commanding Officer (CO) Additional Deputy Inspector General Mozammel Haque during a press briefing at RAB media centre in Dhaka’s Kawran Bazar area on Monday.

He said: “Sohel had married Hashi in January this year. But Sohel tortured Hashi after marriage. Four months later, Hashi divorced Sohel to save her life from Sohel’s torture.

“After the separation, Hashi took a job at an NGO, and lived in a rented house in Shivpur village of Aminbazar in Savar. During this time, Sohel continued to harass her, and demanded money from her,” he added.

CO Mozammel Haque said: “Sohel entered Hashi’s rented house forcefully, and demanded money on May 1, 2019. When Hashi refused to pay the money, Sohel held her hair, and banged her head on the floor, and hit her head with a brick.

“Sohel fled the spot when he thought Hashi had died, and took Tk30, 000 and gold ornaments from the almira,” he added.

“Later, the house owner rushed Hashi to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College & Hospital (ShSMC). She was under treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU), and died on May 7,” OC Mozammel Haque said.

Hashi’s mother had filed a case on the matter. The accused, and his family continued to threaten the plaintiff to withdraw the case. Later, RAB-4 started shadow investigating the case with the police.
