Awami League leader shot dead in Savar

Another was injured in the shooting 

An Awami League leader has been shot dead and another injured in Savar.

The deceased is Abdul Mazid, 35, son of Abdul Khalek and public affairs secretary of Awami League’s Savar municipality unit. 

Local sources told Dhaka Tribune that Mazid and Swapan were shot by unidentified miscreants near Mazid’s residence in Baktarpur area of Savar municipality, around 10pm on Saturday.

Hearing the gunshots, locals went to the spot and found Mazid and Swapan wounded.

Later, the duo was admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared Mazid dead.

“Mazid and Swapan had previous enmity with local named Nekal. Following the dispute, Nekal’s goons killed my son,” deceased’s father Khalek alleged.

Savar Model police station Officer-in-Charge AFM Sayeed said: “We will be able to disclose details after further investigation.”

A case will be filed in this regard.
