Suspected drug trader killed in Mymensingh 'gunfight'

Police also recovered yaba and heroine from the spot

A suspected drug dealer has been killed in a reported gunfight with police at Hobirbari in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh.

The incident occurred on early Saturday. The deceased is Rubel, 31.

Shah Kamal Akand, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch (DB) said: "We received a tip about a group of drug peddlers gathering at Hobirbari around 2:30am Saturday, and then went on a drive in that area.

"However, understanding our presence, the drug peddlers opened fire on us, forcing us to fire back in self-defence." the OC added.

Later police took Rubel, who was shot during the gunfight, to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where the duty doctors declared him dead.

Police also recovered 200 yaba tablets and 100 gram heroin from the spot.
