A Jessore court has placed three people on a three-day remand in a rape case.

Jessore Judicial Magistrate Saifuddin Husssain passed the order on Sunday, after hearing the remand pleas, PBI Investigation Officer Sheikh Monayem Hossain said.

He said: “We asked five-day remand for Kamruzzaman alias Kamrul, Abdul Latif and Abdul Kader. The court later granted them three days remand each.

“They will be taken into PBI custody today (Sunday).”

On September 6, the case was handed over to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

What happened?

On September 3, the woman was gang-raped reportedly by Sub-Inspector Khairul Alam, in-charge of Gorpara police camp, and his informant Kamrul.

According to the case, Khairul and Kamrul went to her house in Lakshmanpur area under Sharsha upazila and demanded Tk50,000.

They demanded the money in exchange for the release of her husband from jail, who was picked up by Khairul on August 25. Her husband was a former drug mule.

Later, they raped her when she failed to pay the money to them. Abdul Latif and Abdul Kader helped were guarding the house while the duo raped the woman.

The woman claimed that police sent her husband to jail on a false charge of carrying 50 bottles of phensedyl after she failed to pay Tk50,000.

The incident came to the media's attention after the victim went to Jessore General Hospital on September 3, for medical tests.

The results of the medical test showed evidences of rape; however, without a DNA test, the doctors failed to confirm the identities of the perpetrators.

Police formed a three-member probe committee after the victim lodged a case with Sharsha police station on the night of September 3, accusing four people.

Among the four, three were named: Kamrul, Abdul Latif, and Abdul Quader while SI Khairul's name was not included in the case.
