An employee of a men’s beauty parlour has allegedly been beaten to death by his co-workers in Gazipur city.
The incident took place on Thursday evening.
The deceased is Asedul Rony, 35, a resident of Naogaon Sadar upazila. He used to reside with his wife, and their two children at Dakkhin Boruda in the city.
Rony was a staff of Adam Gents Parlour located in Jor Pukur Par area.
Meanwhile, police detained five people in connection with the incident.
Of the detainees - Rimon, 20, Al Amin, 19, Rimon, 18, and Azizur, 25, are the employees of the same parlour, and Laiju, 25, is one of the owners.
The victim's sister, Jhorna Begum, said her brother was lynched inside the parlour, and was taken to the hospital later.
Resident Medical Officer Pranay Bhushan Das of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital in Gazipur said Rony was brought dead at the hospital around 12:30am on Friday.
The body bore several injury marks, he said.
An on-duty Ansar member at the hospital said the people, who took Rony to the hospital, tried to flee soon after they heard the news of his death.
Two of them were detained, and handed over to police, he said.
Later on, police conducted drives and detained three others.
Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Samir Chandra Sutradhar of Gazipur Metropolitan Police said: "During primary interrogation, the detainees said Rony was beaten to death as he reportedly harassed a relative of Laiju.
"We are investigating the matter," he added.
The victim's younger brother, Hossain Mandal, filed a case accusing 13 people, including the detainees, on Friday afternoon, said Mizanur Rahman, OC (investigation) of the police station.
