In Jessore, Police arrested three persons in connection with a case filed over the gang-rape of a housewife in the Sharsha upazila of Jessore on Tuesday night.

On Monday night, the housewife was reportedly gang-raped by police Sub-Inspector (SI) Khairul and his informant Kamrul after they came to her house demanding Tk50,000 as bribe for the release of her husband.

On Tuesday, she decided to file a rape case and went to Jessore General Hospital where doctors notified Jessore Kotwali police station and conducted medical tests.

The woman filed the case against three known persons and one unnamed person over the rape.

Although SI Khairul has been withdrawn following the allegations, he has not been named in the case.

A three member probe committee, headed by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Salahuddin Sikder, has been formed over the incident

“As mentioned in the case, police arrested Kamruzzaman, Abdul Latif and Abdul Kader on Tuesday night. We are trying to figure out the unnamed person in the case. Whoever this person may be, he will not be spared,” ASP Salahuddin told Dhaka Tribune.

Asked why SI Khairul was not named in the case, he said: “SI Khairul has been brought before the victim numerous times, but she did not recognize him as one of the assailants.”

On queries regarding the reason why SI Khairul was withdrawn if not involved in the case, he said: “As a committee has been formed to probe the incident, he might feel uncomfortable as his name has been mentioned in the allegations.”

The probe committee has been tasked to file their report over the allegations within three working days.
