Eight killed in road accidents

The incidents occurred at different times on Thursday morning

At least eight people were killed in road accidents in five districts yesterday and Wednesday night. 

In Bogra, four people were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in Sherpur upazila yesterday.

The deceased were truck drivers Hafizul Islam and Kamal Hossain, a truck driver’s assistant Rifat, and Amena, 50.

Police said two trucks collided into each other on the Dhaka-Bogra Highway at College Road area around 4am.

“Three people were killed on the spot,” said Gaziur Rahman, additional superintendent of (Dhunat-Sherpur circle) police.

Besides, a Bogra-bound bus from Dhaka hit Amena at Ulipur in Sherpur upazila headquarters around 7 am while she was crossing the road, leaving her dead on the spot.  

In Gazipur, an inspector of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was killed in a road accident in Kaliganj upazila Wednesday night.

The deceased Inspector Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, was from Araihazar upazila in Narayanganj district. He was posted in Gazipur.

Rupon Chandra, in-charge of Ulukhola police camp, said the accident took place when a motorbike carrying Mosharraf was hit by a covered van, killing him on the spot around 9:30pm. 

In Gopalganj, a microbus driver was killed and three others injured when the vehicle collided head-on with a bus in Muksudpur upazila yesterday.

The deceased identified as Jamal Sheikh, 45, died on the spot.

Muksudpur police station OC Mostofa Kamal Pasha said the accident occurred at Dasher Hat on Dhaka-Khulna Highway at 8am. 

In Manikganj, a man was run over by a bus in Shibaloy upazila yesterday night.

The deceased identified as Safiz Uddin, 70, was run over by a bus in Folsatia area around 10:30 pm, leaving him injured. 

He died on his way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

In Habiganj, a man named Abdul Aziz, 60, was killed when two CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on in Ajmiriganj upazila on Wednesday night.

Two others were injured in this incident, said Ajmiriganj police station OC Mossharrof Hossain Tarafdar.

Police rescued Abdul but he died on his way to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College, OC Mossharoff added.
