She was a lecturer at Hatia Degree College since 2012
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested a college teacher in Noakhali for the alleged forgery of a certificate and embezzlement of government funds.
Shahida Akhtar Rubi, a lecturer of Islamic history and culture at Hatia Degree College, was picked up from the Noakhali Super Market area of the district town on Sunday morning, said ACC Noakhali branch Assistant Director, Subel Ahmed.
According to the ACC, Shahida forged a Non-Government Teachers' Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA)graduation certificate, saying she passed its examination in 2010 to become a teacher.
She joined Hatia Degree College in 2012 submitting that fake certificate and got enlisted under the government's Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme in November of the same year, said Subel.
“Between November 1, 2012, and March 31, 2016, she drew Tk 538,975 in salaries and allowances under the MPO scheme being a teacher with a fake certificate,” he added.
The forgery came to light in December 3, 2015, during an audit conducted at the college by the Directorate of Inspection and Audit of the Education Ministry.
The ACC later investigated the forgery allegations and filed a case against her on August 29. “She was arrested around 10am on Sunday and was later sent to a local court,” said ACC official Subel.
Hatia Degree College Vice Principal Samiul Haque Saju said the college stopped paying Shahida her salaries and allowances two years ago after the forgery allegations surfaced.
