Chittagong city unit Jamaat ameer also among the arrestees
Police have arrested 12 Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, including the ameer, of its Chittagong city unit.
They were arrested from a house of Sugandha Residential Area under Panchlaish police station in the port city on Thursday night.
Apart from Jamaat city ameer Muhammad Shahjahan, General Secretary Nazrul Islam and Organizing Secretary Md Ullah were also arrested.
Panchlaish police station Officer-in-Charge AbulKashemBhuiyan said the Jamaat leaders were arrested during a meeting where they were planning to carry out acts of sabotage in the port city.
“The Jamaat leaders assembled in the house to conduct insurgent operations. They are now being questioned,” the OC added.
