Man kills 8-yr-old son, self in Gazipur

A man reportedly committed suicide in Madaripur and  another person killed himself after killing his child in Tongi of Gazipur early yesterday, due to poverty.

In Gazipur, a man reportedly committed suicide after killing his child in Tongi upazila early morning.

 According to locals, Abdul Halim, 32, was found hanging from the window grille of his rented home in the Hajibari area of Gazipur city. His mentally challenged son, Noman, 8, was also found strangled to death.

Police and locals said Abdul Halim lived with his family in the rented flat of one Shahzada Alam's building in Hajibari of Tongi. He had three children and a wife. Abdul Halim was frustrated not being able to make a decent living.

Md Kamal Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Tongi East police station, said Halim might have strangled his son and then committed suicide around 2am.

His wife  called the neighbors.

Police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

In Madaripur, a 33-year-old man reportedly depressed being unemployed committed suicide in Kalkini upazila, Madaripur.

Akbar Ali Sarder,  a day labourer by profession, hanged himself from the ceiling of his home in Enayetpur.

His wife Fahima Begum said he was mentally distraught being unemployed for years, with a family of two daughters and a son.

Kalkini police station Officer-in-Charge,  Md Mofazzel Hossain, confirmed the incident.
