Three others injured
At least four people were killed and three others injured in road accidents in Gazipur, Madaripur, and Satkhira district, yesterday morning.
In Gazipur, a man was killed when a car he was driving reportedly failed it's brakes and rammed a truck parked alongside the Chandra-Nabinagar road.
The deceased was identified as Sree Tushar Shah, 32, from Shabalia village of Sadar upazila in Tangail.
The car driver was severely injured. The accident took place near the Walton Factory in the Chandra area of Kaliakair upazila, said Salna highway police station OC, Mazibur Rahman.
The duty-doctor declared him dead when he was taken to a local hospital, added OC Mazibur.
In Madaripur, two members of a family were killed and a van driver injured when a bus hit the van they were on, in Karnapara of Kalkini upazila.
The deceased was identified as Motaleb Matubbor, 65, and his sister-in-law, Ummani Begum, 55, from Minajdi village of the same upazila.
According to police and fire service officials, a Dhaka bound Shugandha Paribahan bus hit the van coming from the opposite direction. The Madaripur Sadar Hospital duty-doctor declared them dead when they were brought to the hospital.
Resident Medical Officer, Dr Mahbub Abir of the hospital, said: "The man died on the way to the hospital but the woman died undergoing treatment. He added that the van driver, Ferdaus Sharif, was transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
In Satkhira, a man in a truck was killed on the spot when the truck lost control and hit a roadside tree in the Bohra brick kiln area in Debhata upazila.
The deceased was identified as Firoz Sheikh, 46, a fish seller from Sujanagar upazila in Pabna, confirmed Debhata police station OC, Ujjal Kumar Maitra.
OC Ujjal said the driver and his assistant, both of whom were injured in the accident, were taken to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for better treatment.
