Boy dies in failed attempt to save girl in Comilla

The boy went to rescue the girl when her leg got stuck in railway tracks

A teenage boy and a girl were crushed under the wheels of a train, when the boy attempted to save the other from the Chittagong-bound Provati Express train in Comilla Adarsha Sadar upazila on Friday.

The incident occurred in the south side of the railway bridge in Badarpur area around 12pm.

The deceased are Swapnil Haque Aditya, 13, son of Md Monirul Haque and a student of Police Line High School, and Setu Roy, 14, daughter of Subol Roy and a student of the Railway Public High School in the district. 

Following the incident the bodies of the duo were recovered and brought to the Comilla railway police outpost. Relatives of the victim broke into tears at the sight of the untimely deaths of these two young teens. 

Quoting locals, Sub-Inspector (SI) Mezbaul Haq Mezbah, in-charge of Comilla railway police outpost, said: "Both teenagers fell under the train, when the boy went to rescue the girl, as her leg became stuck in the railway tracks. Both died on the spot.”

The bodies were sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy, he added.

Victims’ guardians say they did not know if the two teenagers were involved in a love affair.

Additional Superintendent of Police Salehin Emon said the incident will be investigated to determine if it was suicide.
