A day after an army man was shot dead in Bandarban, armed miscreants reportedly abducted three men from the district’s Ruma upazila on Monday.

Bandarban’s SP Zakir Hossain said they have heard about the abductions. “Police and army are conducting searches to find them.”
Tension has gripped the district after Sunday’s attack on an army patrol team in Rajasthali upazila, which left a sainik dead. Monday’s reported abductions have taken place amid beefed up security, with police and army patrols increased.
Ruma police station OC Mizanur Rahman also echoed the SP’s remarks, saying: “We will know more after looking into it.”
Local sources said the three jeep drivers were abducted from Ramu’s Munnuam Para area in the afternoon.
The abductors took them away at gunpoint when they were returning from there to Ruma Sadar town. The abductors left their vehicles a Minjhiri Para.
Basu’s brother Binod Karmakar told Dhaka Tribune that Basu left home after lunch and his phone was found switched off since then. “We have heard from locals that Basu and the two others have been abducted.”
Locals said there was not any indication as to which extremist group abducted the three men. The incident, coupled with the attack on army men, has left the locals in panicked.
