The woman was tied to a tree and reportedly tortured
A woman with a mental disability was tied to a tree and reportedly tortured by a man in Kurigram, on a suspicion that she was his daughter's kidnapper.
According to the eye-witnesses of the incident, Tara Mia, a tenant of Jahangir Alam residence in the Trimohni bazar area of the Sadar upazila, chased the mentally challenged woman on Tuesday afternoon after she pulled Tara's daughter's hand at the house premises.
After the chase, Tara caught the woman in the same area, tied her to a tree and assaulted her, while one of the locals called 999 and informed the police.
Kurigram Sadar police station OC Md Mahfuzar Rahman said: "Upon information we brought the woman to the police station and are trying to look for her identification.
"The woman is acting like a mentally challenged person and she was tied up when we rescued her, but we received no allegations of her being assaulted."
The OC added the police informed the matter to the Social Service Department officials.
After visiting the woman at the police station, this correspondent found the woman lying on the floor and shouting words that didn't make any sense. She said her name is Rejia Parvin and claimed she was assaulted and in pain.
