Six killed in road accidents in four districts

Six people were killed and a 15-year-old juvenile was injured in separate road accidents across the country.

The accidents occurred on Monday and Sunday.

In Nilphamari, two people were killed in separate road accidents in Saidpur in the last two days.

In Saidpur, a rickshaw-van driver named Amullo Chandra Ray, 45, was killed when a truck ran him over around 7pm on Monday.

Sources said, Amullo was driving his van when a speeding truck hit him and tried to get away. Locals seized the truck and handed the truck’s helper over to the police. The driver fled the scene.

Saidpur police station OC Shahjahan Pasha said: "The road was temporarily blocked by angry locals. We cleared the road after two hours."

In Mujarmor, an elderly pedestrian was ran over and killed by a speeding motorcycle on the Nilphamari-Saidpur bypass road on Sunday.

Sources said the deceased, Jobeda Begum, 50, was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital by locals, where she died.

Saidpur police station OC Abul Hasnat confirmed the incident.

In Madaripur, an Awami League (AL) leader died in a road accident on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Pancchar of Shibchar upazila on Monday.

The deceased, Babul Shikdar, 45, was the general secretary of Bandarkhola Union AL.

Shibchar police station OC Abul Kalam Azad said: "Babul was crossing the road when a bus ran him over. Locals took him to the Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctor declared him dead."

In Natore, a juvenile was killed and another injured in a road accident in Jamnagar of Bagatipara upazila on Monday.

Sources said the deceased, Sarwar Hossain Sagor, 15, was riding a motorcycle with his friend Saikat when another motorcycle hit their vehicle from behind. Sagor lost control of his motorbike and a truck hit him head on, killing Sagor on the spot and injuring Saikat.

Bagatipara police station OC Sirajul Islam confirmed the incident to Dhaka Tribune.

In Rangpur, two people were killed in separate road accidents at different places in Mithapukur and Pirgachha upazilas of the district on Sunday.

In Mithapukur upazila, a bicyclist named Nur Ali, 57, was killed on the spot, hit by an unidentified truck on the outskirts of town on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway in Mithapukur upazila around  9pm.

Mithapukur police station OC Jafar Ali confirmed the accident.

In Pirgachha upazila, a pedestrian named   Rochimon Bewa, 50, was killed on the spot when a trolley hit her at Paotana point on the Pirgachha-Rangpur road around 8:30pm.

Pirgachha police station OC Rezaul Karim confirmed the accident.

Two separate cases were filed for these accidents with the respective police stations.
