At least nine people were killed, and several others injured in five districts on Saturday.
In Narsingdi, four people, including three university students, were killed, and four others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a car at Shibpur upazila in Narsingdi.
The accident took place on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Karar Char area around 2am on Saturday, when a Sylhet-bound Shyamoli Paribahan bus collided with the car.
The deceased are Sadia Akter, 26, Jannat, 25, and Akib, 27, MBA students of The Millennium University in Dhaka, and Sadia’s husband, Imran Hossain, 35.
Deputy Assistant Director Shafiqul Islam of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Narsingdi said the four were returning to Dhaka from Sylhet after having a picnic. They were travelling in a car which Imran was driving.
Due to the impact of the crash, the car got mangled while the bus fell into a roadside ditch, he said.
Three of the car’s passengers died on the spot, he said.
Five passengers, one from the car and four from the bus, were injured in the accident, and was taken to Narsingdi District Hospital, Shafiqul added.
Of the injured, Sadia was declared dead at the hospital, Resident Medical Officer Md Mizanur Rahman said.
Later, the remaining four injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, he said.
In Magura, a motorcyclist was killed when the vehicle collided head-on with an oncoming bus on the Magura-Sreepur Highway around 7am.
The deceased was identified as Ziaur Rahman Sheikh, 35, a wood trader.
Sreepur police station Sub-Inspector said: “The body of the deceased was sent to Magura Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.”
In Noakhali, a four-year-old child was killed after being run over by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Char Kakara union of Companiganj upazila around 12pm.
The deceased was identified as Muntaha, 4, daughter of Md Masud from Char Kakra union.
Locals said, the child was killed on the spot near her house when an auto-rickshaw ran her over, and fled the scene.
Companiganj police station Inspector (Investigation) Mostafizur Rahman confirmed, and said the police were trying to arrest the driver of the auo-rickshaw.
In Narayanganj, a motorcyclist, Ibrahim Sarker, 35, was killed after colliding head-on with a car in Bholanathpur area of Rupganj upazila.
Rupganj police station SI Shahjahan Khan said: “The body of the deceased was sent to the morgue for autopsy.”
In Ashulia, a man named Alamgir Hossain, 35, was killed after being run over by a bus on the Nabinagar-Chandra Highway in Jirani, confirmed Salna Highway police station SI Mozzamel Hoque.
In Shariatpur, a construction worker, Mamun Pahar, 21, died in collision between a motorcycle and an auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Shariatpur Highway in the district town.
