One accused has been apprehended while two others are absconding

Three men have been accused of raping an indigenous woman, while holding her husband captive, in Ashulia.

The incident took place at her house in the Natunpara neighbourhood in the Vendabar area on Tuesday.

The woman filed a case on Sunday morning in the Ashulia police station.

One of the three accused men was arrested on Saturday night. However, two others, named Joy and Shamim, managed to flee and are still absconding.

Sources from the police and the survivors' family say, the indigenous family often prepares local alcohol for their own consumption. Three men went to their home after learning about this, and tried to extort money from the family. At one stage, the group of men took Tk10,000  and a gold chain from the family, and demanded an additional Tk2 lakh.

When the family expressed their inability to provide the money, the husband was taken to the next room, beaten and tied up.

After that, the wife was taken to the other room and gang-raped.

The Sub-Inspector (SI) of the Ashulia Police Station Fajukul has said, "A young man named Rony was arrested in regard to this rape. We are still continuing our attempts to apprehend the other culprits."
