Launch, speedboat services suspended at Mawa, Kathalbari

The boat, carrying 19 passengers, overturned due to strong winds on the way to Kathalbari terminal from Shimulia

Rough weather has forced suspension of launch and speedboat services on the Mawa-Kathalbari route.

Aminul Islam, in-charge of naval police camp, said no launch or speedboats left the terminal since 10am on Tuesday morning.

Earlier in the morning, a child went missing after a speedboat sank in the Padma River around 8am.

The missing boy is Deen Islam Rony, 8, son of Siddiqur Rahman, resident of Dhaka's Mirpur area.

The boat, carrying 19 passengers, overturned due to strong winds on the way to Kathalbari terminal from Shimulia.

Nearby boats rescued 18 passengers but Deen remained missing. 

Members of Army, Coast Guard, Fire Service and Naval police are conducting search operation to rescue the missing child.
