Chittagong cattle markets: 71 veterinary teams to render services

The teams will be deployed in 63 permanent and 146 temporary markets. Each veterinary team will comprise of 3-10 members

A total of 71 veterinary medical teams will provide services at 209 cattle markets in 15 upazilas of the Chittagong district and the metropolitan area, this year.

District Livestock Officer Dr Md Reajul Huq disclosed this at a press briefing held at the Chittagong Press Club yesterday.

"The teams will be deployed in 63 permanent and 146 temporary markets. Each veterinary team will comprise of 3-10 members," he said.

More than one veterinary team will   be deployed in each of the permanent big markets, Dr Reajul said.

"Apart from the veterinary teams, a control room with numbers 01859255151 and 01720882282 will be set up at the District Livestock Office for anyone to seek suggestions regarding health issues of the sacrificial animals," said the livestock officer.

Dr Reajul further said there would not be any shortage of sacrificial animals and the demand could be met from domestic sources.

A total of 655,415 cattle were sacrificed in Chittagong in 2018. This year a total of 702,000 cattlheads are projected to be required. 

"Currently, there are 610,219 cattle are available in Chittagong. Already around 200,000 cattle have arrived in Chittagong from different parts of the country," he added.
