'Tariqul has been continuously stalking my cousin on her way to college for the last two months'
A local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League stabbed an Awami League leader in broad daylight for protesting stalking of his eleventh-grader daughter in Bogra.
Tariqul Islam Tari, 25, acting president of Sonaray union unit Chhatra League, along with some of his associates stabbed Md Ful Mia, 52, joint secretary of the union unit Awami League, with sharp weapons Friday afternoon, police and the victim’s family members said.
The seriously injured Ful Mia, 52, of Khupi village was admitted to the Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital following the incident.
“Tariqul has been continuously stalking my cousin on her way to college for the last two months. Therefore, my uncle informed this matter to the college principal, and Tariqul’s family. He also warned Tariqul," Abu Sayeed, nephew of Ful Mia, told Dhaka Tribune.
"Then, Tariqul became angry and he along with his brother Tarajul, cousin Gafur and other associates attacked my uncle with sharp weapons at Jamirbaria haat," he said.
Local Chhatra league sources said there were many allegations of stalking against Tariqul and previously he was beaten by angry mob as a result.
Gabtali police station Inspector Abdur Gani said: “The injured Ful Mia’s son Amir Hossain is filing a case accusing Tariqul and few others. We are trying to detain him, but right now he is on the run.”
