The incident happened when a box-van carrying 18 students plunged to a roadside canal
Two madrasa students have been killed and nine others injured after in a road accident in Mulpain area under Wazirpur upazila of Barisal district.
The accident took place when a box-van-- carrying 18 students-- plunged to a roadside canal on Tuesday morning.
All of them were students of Mulpain Darus Sunnat Madrasa.
The deceased are Lamia Aktar, 7, daughter of Joynul Abedin from Mulpain and Abdullah Haoladar, 8, son of Selim Haoladar from Sakrail village of the upazila.
Confirming the matter, Wazirpur police station Officer-in-Charge said the box-van was going towards the madrasa.
After the accident, local people went to the spot and carried out the rescue operation.
The injured were sent to Wazirpur Upazila Health Complex.
Dr Maksudur Rahman, the duty officer of the health complex, said the duo died on the way to the hospital.
He said the injured are being treated at the health complex and will later be sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Joynul Abedin, guardian of one of the victims, blamed the madrasa authorities for the accident.
He claimed that the accident occurred because the box-van was overloaded as it had the capacity of carrying only eight to nine children.
When contacted, the madrasa authorities were unavailable for comment.
