According to Minni's lawyer, she was sick and requested for medical treatment
Ayesha Siddiqua Minni will withdraw her confessional statement in the murder case of her husband Rifat Sharif, her lawyer Advocate Mahbubul Bari Aslam has said.
Advocate Mahbubul Bari Aslam disclosed the matter to the media after meeting Minni at Barguna jail on Wednesday noon.
Earlier in the day, her lawyers and Supreme Court lawyer Md Saifur Rahman met with her.
Advocate Mahbubul Bari Aslam told Dhaka Tribune: "We met Minni in the presence of Barguna Jail Super Anwar Hossain. We spoke to her about various aspects of her association in her husband's murder case."
"Minni said she would withdraw her confessional statement, which was taken under duress," he added.
Advocate Mahbubul also said Minni was sick and requested for medical treatment.
"If required, the jail authority will make necessary arrangements for her treatment," the jail super said.
At the time of the meeting, Minni's father Mojammel Hossain Kishor and the press were waiting outside the jail for further briefing on Rifat's murder case.
Rifat was indiscriminately hacked by a group of youths in Barguna in front of Minni on June 26.
On July 16, police arrested Minni. A court placed her on a five-day remand the following day.
On July 18, Barguna Superintendent of Police (SP) Maruf Hossain said Minni confessed to her involvement in the murder.
The next day, a Barguna court recorded her statements.
Till date, 15 people have been arrested in connection with Rifat Sharif's murder. All of them have confessed to their crimes.
Prime accused Nayan Bond was killed in a gunfight with police on July 2.
