An accused of a  murder case was killed in a reported gunfight with police, at Dumurtala area near Indian Border of Bakshiganj upazila under Jamalpur on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Shipon, 28, son of Jalal Uddin, of Munshichar area in Sherpur Sadar upazila.

Police claimed that four members of law enforcement were also injured in the gunfight.

AKM Mahbubul Alam, officer-in-charge of Bakshiganj police station, said people caught Shipon while conducting robbery in some boats at Bakshiganj on Sunday night, and handed him over to police.

According to his information, police launched drives in Sarmara and Ramrampur areas to seize drugs, and firearms.

When police reached Dumurtola under Kamalpur union, his associates opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back in self-defense, triggering a gunfight.

Later, police recovered bullet-hit Shipon, and took him to upazila health complex where doctor declared him dead, he added.

Shipon was accused in 14 cases, including a murder case with Sherpur, Shrebardi, and Bakshiganj police station, the OC added.

Later, police recovered a motorcycle, a pipe gun, and 300  yaba tablets from the spot.
