Among the dead, two were pirates and one was a drug peddler
Three people have been killed in separate gunfights in Meherpur and Bagerhat districts.
The incidents occurred on Tuesday morning.
In Bagerhat, Khalek- the alleged leader of Khalek Bahini, a pirate gang, and second-in-command Bellal have been killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Sundarban.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, RAB 08 Deputy Commander Maj Sajibul Islam said some firearms and bullets have been recovered from the spot.
He said: "We were on our weekly patrol at the Jongra canal of Sundarban, when Khalek Bahini opened fire at us, forcing us to fire back in self defense."
Later, RAB recovered the bodies of the two pirates, firearms, and a bullets from the spot.
In Meherpur, a suspected drug peddler has been killed in a reported gunfight between two drug peddling gangs over distribution of drugs near Mathabhanga intersection of Govipur village.
Police said the deceased- Hamidul Islam, 30, has 12 cases filed against him with the Sadar police station.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Meherpur sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dara Khan said: "After the locals informed us about the incident we went to the spot and recovered Hamidul's body with the locals’ help.
"We are primarily assuming that the gunfight between the groups took place over the apportionment of drugs. Police has launched an investigation regarding the issue," he added.
Police have recovered a one shooter gun, two bullets and 12 bottles of phensedyl from the spot.
The body has been sent to Meherpur General Hospital for autopsy, the police official added.
